Die Hard: Vendetta is a 2002 first-person shooter video game developed by Bits Studios. The game was co-published by Fox Interactive, alongside Vivendi Universal Games International in Europe under their NDA Productions subsidiary, and Sierra Entertainment/Vivendi Universal Games in North America. Taking place after the first three Die Hard films, players take on terrorists as John McClane. Reginald VelJohnson reprises his role as Sgt. Al Powell. McClane's daughter, Lucy, is an L.A.P.D. member in the game. The game was being developed as an original IP titled Muzzle Velocity featuring a story in which player character Jack, a member of the LAPD SWAT team during a mission in Los Angeles, is battling crime wave gone out of control out of control that the LAPD cannot stop it on its own. After the studio partnered with Fox Interactive development of the game shifted to an alternate IP under the Speed series titled after and based on the film of the same name Speed 2: Cruise Control. The game would have been primarily set on a boat, though a bus level was also conceived as a nod to the original film. This game was then planned to release in January 1999 for Nintendo 64 and PC. However the movie was both a critical and commercial failure after its release and both companies decided to switch the project once more to the Die Hard franchise thus becoming Die Hard 64. Gameplay wise, the game was to utilize many of the mechanics found in Goldeneye 007 including level design, mission objectives, gunplay, exploraion and much more. It was also one of three Nintendo 64 projects by Bits Studios, though none of them ever saw the light of day on the console. In early 2000, Die Hard 64 wasn't finished as the new generation of consoles at the time were almost out. The studio decided to move the title to GameCube and significantly upgrade the game's TWED engine so they could push the tech into the next gen hardware.[2] Die Hard: Vendetta was released for the GameCube in November 2002, and for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in June 2003. The game received mixed reviews from critics.
